4 kayakers and 2 employees of a kayak rental firm in Shanklin found themselves in a spot of bother near Ventnor earlier this afternoon (Sunday).
Bembridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was tasked by Solent Coastguard at around 15:40, alongside Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team, after it was reported that 6 individuals had got into difficulties between Shanklin and Ventnor.
A jet ski and a passing fishing vessel were able to assist all of the casualties prior to the arrival of the lifeboat. They were taken ashore to Shanklin Esplanade.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team met with the kayakers and staff members and advice was given.
The D-class lifeboat conducted a quick search of the area to ensure that no one else was in difficulty before returning to Lane End. She was recovered by 17:15.
