Youth Darts Academy Isle of Wight held its first competition at the Ambassador Snooker Club in Gunville on Sunday.
A total of 55 players registered, ranging in age from 7 up to 16 years old.
Organiser Andy Barney told Island Echo:
“Darts is excellent for children’s arithmetic with times tables for doubles and trebles and adding up and taking away. It also improves hand-eye coordination, and helps with confidence building when playing in front of a crowd.
“The standard of the players was very high, especially in the advanced group with some outstanding games. Congratulations to everyone that took part.”
In the beginners section, after the round robin stage, the 4 players though to the play offs were Harrison Hunt, Alfie Stabler, Henry Hunt and Jamie Furmidge. The winner was Harrison Hunt and Alfie Stabler was the runner-up.
The intermediate play-offs were contested by Maison Harrington, Archie Isacaon, Ronnie Sheath and Drew Catania. In the final, Drew Catania just got the better of Ronnie Sheath.
In the final group of advanced players, the 4 players left to contest the play-offs were Mitchel Hunt, Jack Christie, Samuel Phillips and Reggie Woodmore. Reggie Woodmore was the winner, and the runner-up was Samuel Phillips.
Andy Barney added:
“A big thank you to everyone that entered and made the day an amazing experience for everyone.
“We hope to see you all on the first Sunday in March for the weekly club, when we will have some exciting news about the next competition, and what the winners will receive.
“You will need to be registered and attending the club to enter this competition.”
Andy expressed his thanks to the sponsors of the event: Lake Taxis, Wight Bay Bar Events, Retro Hobby and Games, Shanklin Printworx and the Ambassador Snooker Club and urges any other companies interested in sponsorship to get in touch.
