A man in his 40s is receiving treatment at Southampton’s Major Trauma Centre following yesterday’s collision on Military Road at Compton.
As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to the entrance to Hanover Point car park at just before 16:45. The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was part of the emergency response having been scrambled from its base at Andover.
It has now been confirmed that a motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Ford Kuga.
The rider, a 47-year-old man from Farnborough, suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision and was airlifted directly to Southampton General Hospital, where he remains.
Specialist crash scene investigators were called in to conduct a forensic analysis of the incident. The road has since re-opened in both directions.
Anyone who witnessed the collision should contact Hampshire Constabulary on 101, quoting 44210335189.

the police must get to grip with the huge speed bikes go on the military rd especially at the w/e
this might not be the case in this accident but I am shocked when riding my bike on the military rd the speed of motorbikes
Last year I was on my push bike on the military road and ended up in the ditch as 3 bikes raced past me at over a ton-crazy and so dangerous!
Well if you had been concentrating on your riding instead of your speed radar gun maybe you would have stayed on the road!
Thanks for that Paul-really helpful!
These bikers were well under the speed limit. Myself and my family witnessed it unfortunately. Ridiculous comment from someone who knows nothing.
stop cars parking on the grass.
Stop bikes speeding
Cars speed all the time nobody does anything about that and don’t mater what speed your doing if a car pulls out in front of you
The car barely got out the junction!!! Who said anything about speed? Keep your thoughts to yourselves
Who said he was speeding anyway and how many car accidents this year already
Just look at the bike.
Traumatic injuries.
On the military road.
Not speeding, really ?
And cars
Need bigger carpark that take van hieghts then..
More traffic = More accidents hardly rocket science ask the emergency services how many call outs to RTA,s they had in Lockdown,Now its a free for all, As most Park where they want they would & rather pay a fine than walk 50yrds!!
Put a few signs up saying £500 fine for parking at side of road and direct cars to the car park.
If car park full, leave, go find somewhere else, stop parking on side of the road causing an obstruction, making it difficult to pull out as cannot see… ignorant selfish car drivers..
RTi’s Tim, accident has been replaced by incident because accident apparently suggested no one’s to blame.
(not connected but are you a Man utd supporter?)
Your point being?
Classic SMIDSY accident.
Actually seeing the accident, I don’t think either part were at fault, it seemed a genuine unfortunate accident. If there is a blame, it is that there were cars park all over the embankment making it impossible for the driver to see out of the junction, and impossible for the biker to tell the car was coming out. Hope the biker makes a full recover and the family in the car are ok
Is this speed related? Or most likely a case of not bloody looking! Side impact damage to the car seems a little obvious!
I dont think it was speed related. The damage on the car would have been a lot worse. The biker didn’t seem to apply breaks. Nothing more than an accident. I wish people would stop commenting on bikers speeding and drivers being incompetent, when they weren’t even there to witness the accident, it doesn’t help anyone
Well only 14 comments showing out of 21. They need to sort out this site, comments just being deleted willy nilly for no proper reason than that someone doesn’t like something that was said. Too many snowflakes around today.
I wasnt there granted, but, I do ride a motorcycle and I know for a fact that stretch of road is dangerous due to there always being cars parked on the verge this time of year, being cautious, highly aware and slowing down, I’ve still had more than one close call within that stretch of road simply due to people not looking, or looking but not seeing. Pulling off the verge without indicating, loose dogs and children. You just cant stop a motorcycle as easily as a car!
100% agree – which is why I now give it a miss a the weekends – just too dangerous
I am a daily all weathers motorcycle commuter and leisure rider but I NEVER EVER go on the military road at weekends – just too many weekend warriors (in cars and on bikes) to be safe, as the accident statistics for that road will attest – it’s one of the most dangerous biking roads in the south.
They need to put some posts to stop idiots from parking on the verges. It makes visibility of coming out the car park next to none without having to move out into the road into oncoming traffic.
Hope the guy makes a full recovery.
Now they have the Bike road race coming more accidents ?
Thoughts with the biker <3 Also the family in the car.
It is just another of those statistics, until there is a seriously heavy fine/criminal charges for those parked on the grass verge blocking visability of the road or within a reasonable distance of at least 300 feet from the junction for the speed of the road, then this type of thing is always going to happen, I don’t think anything other than boulders would stop people from parking there, as to put posts etc then it will just obstruct the drivers view of the road they are pulling onto, I feel sorry to all those involved. and hope all can recover from this.
