The activation of a fire alarm led to the discovery of a sizeable fire at a laundrette in Lake late last night (Thursday).
1 appliance from Shanklin was mobilised to Lake Laundry Services on Spithead Business Centre at 23:27 when an automated fire alarm was activated.
The retained crew arrived on scene just a few minutes later to discover smoke issuing from the building, resulting in the incident being quickly scaled up to 4 appliances.
Additional resources from Sandown, Ventnor and Newport were mobilised by fire control and forced entry was made.
It has been confirmed that 3 gas-powered industrial tumble dryers were alight with 6 breathing apparatus and 3 hose reel jets used to dowse the flames and bring the situation under control.
Positive pressure ventilation was used to clear the smoke.
The stop message was sent back at just gone 01:00, around 90 minutes after Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was first alerted.
The extent of the damage caused is unknown at this time.
