4 people appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrate’s Court this morning (Friday) in connection with an imitation firearm offence after an incident last year in which a number of people were allegedly shot at.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Police received a number of reports on the evening of 8th August 2022, alleging that the occupants of a vehicle driving around Sandown and Ryde were firing BB gun pellets at members of the public, injuring several people.
An unmarked Armed Response Vehicle eventually stopped a silver Ford Fiesta at Marymead Close, off Simeon Street in Ryde, and 4 occupants were arrested.
Now, a number of people have been charged in connection with the incident and put before Magistrates.
Oliver Cooper, 19, of Whitcombe Road in Newport, has been charged with 4 counts of possession of an offensive weapon in public (namely 3 fixed blade craft knives and a butterfly knife) and 1 charge of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
Zachary Savaria, 19, of Well Street in Ryde, has been charged with 1 count of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and 1 count of possession of cannabis.
Demi Greenaway-Jones, 18, of Weeks Road in Ryde, has been charged with 1 count of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and 1 count of possession of cannabis.
Finally, Kian Debenham, 20, of Marlborough Road in Ryde, has been charged with 1 count of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
Following this morning’s appearance in court, the cases have been sent up to the Isle of Wight Crown Court where the 4 defendants will appear on 22nd May.
