40-year-old Scott Taylor has been banned from the roads for 3 years after refusing to complete a roadside drugs wipe.
Taylor, of Brook Close in Ryde, admitted failing to provide, drug driving and failing to cooperate with a preliminary test when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday 17th June).
Crown Prosecutor Lauren McConnell told the court that on 17th November 2024, Police on patrol in Sandown were drawn to the attention of a Ford Focus after it was flagged on their automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system.
Officers stopped Taylor and conducted a roadside drugs wipe, with a positive reading for cannabis returned.
Some 5 months later, in March of this year, the Police ANPR system was again flagged by Taylor’s Ford Focus. The 40-year-old was followed to his home address on Brook Close in the Oakfield area of Ryde.
When asked to complete a roadside drugs wipe, Taylor refused. He refused again when requested to provide a sample at Newport Police Station. Taylor gave no reason as to why he couldn’t give a specimen for analysis.
The 40-year-old, who works part-time, has 2 convictions on his record and was last in court back in 2022 when he was sentenced for a similar offence.
Defending Taylor, Oscar Vincent told the court that his client has not offended since he was arrested back in March and that a host of factors, including personal trauma and medical issues, were troubling him at the time.
Magistrates handed the father-of-one a 36-month driving ban. He was also handed a 12-month community order with 120 hours of unpaid work attached and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 surcharge fee.
Well done, 1 less Numpty on our roads.
Keep up the good work guys.
So, he got away with it again.
He won’t stop driving.
We need stricter rules to stop people re-offending.
Hasn’t reoffended again or not got caught.
If he offends in a similar way again, the public have a right to expect him to be serving a custodial sentence (not a suspended one)
