A full rescue operation was swiftly launched involving Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team, Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team, Cowes RNLI Lifeboat and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Using specialist equipment, Coastguard Officers managed to reach all of the casualties and were required to stretcher 2 of them to safety. 1 person was taken to hospital.
It is currently unclear how the 3 persons managed to end up in such a predicament.
The incident was concluded by 03:00.
UPDATE @ 09:00 – 3 males are understood to have been involved in this morning’s incident – 2 festival revellers and the skipper of a boat transporting people to and from the festival site.
2 of the men went to aid the third man as he tried to reach the shore after his boat ran aground on the River Medina. Unfortunately, the mud flats proved too treacherous.
Cowes RNLI pulled the 10m motor cruiser clear of the mud and secured it safely to the pontoon at Island Harbour.
