Firefighters have rescued 3 people from the cliff lift at Shanklin this evening (Sunday).
Crews from Sandown and Shanklin were called to the top of the cliff overlooking Shanklin Esplanade at just before 18:00 following a mechanical failure of the Council-run service.
To free the individuals, firefighters isolated the power and manually lowered the lift to the ground level from the motor room.
It is unknown if the lift will be returning to service tonight.

Oh for ‘g’ sake!!!
Why the hell couldn’t the duty gimp have done that??
Nil training by this useless idiot IWC who put untrained reluctant staff here.
Come on Hampshire. Come save us.
I don’t think you understand what being stuck in a lift means
Oh no another council service, hope it’s not the beginning of another floating bridge marlarky
Maybe they should use the floating bridge like a slide down the side of the cliff.
