A 22-year-old man from Ryde has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a male was stabbed in Oakfield on Friday afternoon.
Emergency services, including the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, rushed to the Oak Vale area at just gone 15:30 on Friday (27th May) after reports were received that a man had been stabbed and was bleeding.
The topless casualty, aged in his 20s, was found at the bottom of Slade Road with a stab wound to his side. Despite being stabbed, the male was up and about and did not need to be flown to a mainland hospital.
Cordons were erected between Oakfield ARC and Meaders Road and remained in situ until Saturday afternoon.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Police spent Friday night and into Saturday morning searching for their prime suspect – but failed to make an arrest.
Now, Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that officers arrested a man in Slade Road, Oakfield at 17:10 yesterday afternoon.
The 22-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and remains in police custody at this time.
Detectives will today be questioning the suspect ahead of any charging decision.

GBH with intent, you deliberately stuck a sharp object into another person, knowing full well what the outcome could be, why not attempted murder then?
Carries the same sentence, only to prove murder you need motive.
Benefit breeding drugy parasites who are given everything and are still vile.
And the Governments answer is to give them even more in some flawed thinking that they will then be happy decent people.
Yet they just see it as society being weak and feel it is their’right’ and the world owes them a living just for littering us up with their vile scattered clones
All the attention knives are getting on the news and social media it beggars belief these idiots think it’s ok to carry and use a knife.
Tougher penalties for knife crime should be introduced. There currently, in my opinion is no deterrent for these lowlife who carry knives.
A lot of murders around the country that carry life sentences, I do not even believe the death sentence would stop a lot of them. These people are so wrapped up in their own idiotic brains, they don’t think further than that moment. Very very sad.
Kev, whilst the death sentence MAY not prevent all murders, one could be sure, that the perpetrator would NOT do such again.
That and the cost of keeping it would be hundreds of k less, and free up room for lesser offenders in jails.
These beings are given free or heavily subsidised rent and council tax. Have their usually large well scattered brood of future mini up and coming nere do wells all kept fed and paid for yet are still evil to live amongst.
The are always protected by the gullible of society pleading poverty yet pay out little have more in benefit that most earn and still drug deal and grow earning thousands tax free
Yet are given extra fuel allowance free meals for vast future mini criminals to ensure that life for the next generation here is even worse.
They need to be removed to 10 year army boot camps no remission
Safe to say it’s not a mainlander, taking a day trip to commit crime on the island.
Should be like the states three strikes and you are out 25 year mandatory prison sentence
Why don’t they have bill boards saying “welcome to the island of crime” as people get off the ferries, as this is what is happening to our island. Why send the unemployed and wasters over here when there is no work for them, this is why the crime rate has soared.
Why our greedy council happily accept ‘wasters’ over here is for the fact that ‘central government’ fund their benefits, their rent and their council tax.
Thus the council gain payment from the mainland council for taking in their overspill, and gain in more council tax from each house built and filled, as, like I say, it is funded by central Gov.
So the council here have nothing to loose, and they live miles away in leafy lanes away from the rubbish they inflict on all others. They have private health care and education, so care nothing for the rest of us.
THAT is ‘why’.
I know as I work for the council
To be honest, with an uneducated statement like that I would not doubt you work for the council, but you would merely be another employee who does not know their job. As an “employee of the council” can I ask you were all these empty houses/flats are that all these mainlanders are housed in on a continuous basis? To be housed in any council property you need to have 5 years island connection, I KNOW BECAUSE I REALLY HAVE A JOB!
