Red Funnel has announced that a total of 24 sailings have been cancelled on its vehicle ferry service over the next 2 days.
Last night it was revealed that 6 crossings to and from the Isle of Wight would be cancelled today (Tuesday). Now, just 24 hours later, a further 24 cancellations have been confirmed.
The 05:00, 08:00, 11:00, 14:00, 17:00 and 21:00 sailings from Southampton have all been cancelled, alongside the 06:30, 09:30, 12:30, 15:30, 18:30 and 22:30 sailings from East Cowes. This applies to both Wednesday 14th July and Thursday 15th July.
The availability of ‘critical staff’ across Red Funnel’s operation is to blame – presumably missing from work due to self-isolation requirements.
Red Funnel apologises for any inconvenience to your journey.
Could they not not take lateral flow test’s regularly ?????.
I work with public and I do 2 /3 tests a week ….
Depending on shifts etc …..
Not difficult …..
Maybe they do, along with temperature checks daily etc etc etc. It only takes one person with a positive test to then make others isolate for the next ten days. Why do you assume they didn’t? Their staff are bloody amazing, working in all weathers, dealing with very difficult situations at times and still with a smile. Maybe have a think before you write next time. Such a shame that so many people always try and belittle others when they don’t know the full story, only what they read or hear.

You should book a pcr test straightaway.
At least you get back to work quicker and know if you have covid ….
And yes I know they have and still work hard but isn’t it better to get tested ?????.
Even if you book a pcr test and it comes back negative you still have to isolate for the 10 days. So how would you get back to work quicker?? How do you know they are not getting tested? Do you work there? Have friends or family that work there? No? I thought not. Maybe get facts right first before you comment please.

Some questions need to be asked by the IoW council. The service over the last 6 months has been shocking. They have a new CEO have cut costs, via redundancies and are now affecting travellers livelihoods through constant disruptions. The delays are adding hours to travel times, really making it easy (not) for holiday makers getting to and from the island.
It’s about time Red Funnel has one less employee. Make it the useless CEO Fran Collins. Get rid of her. She is ultimately responsible for this mess. Staff and working Ferries are two of the most important ingredients to run ferry services. This time the shortage is staff. How do you end up in a situation with no contingency plan?
