2 men from Newport, aged 31 and 24, have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and burglary after being caught by Police breaking into the Waterside Pool in Ryde overnight.
At around 02:40 this morning (Saturday), entry was forced to the community pool leading to the activation of the building’s alarm system.
Police responded immediately and located the 2 of the 3 suspected intruders, who were detained, cuffed and taken into custody at Newport Police Station.
The pair remain in custody for questioning.
It’s understood that the pool’s external lighting and security systems were vandalised ahead of the break-in, seemingly in a bid to avoid being caught.
The building has since been made secure and is open as usual today.
The break in is expected to cost the charity thousands of pounds in damages.
