27-year-old Cameron Wayne Baker and 27-year-old Rio Tyrrell Scott have been charged with the murder of Tommy Barton in Ryde during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police were called at 03:17 on Sunday 28th May to an incident on Park Road, Ryde in which Tommy, from Brading, was seriously assaulted. He died whilst en-route to hospital.
Following 3 days of forensic investigation and questioning, detectives have this evening charged 2 people with Mr Barton’s murder.
Cameron Baker of Leed Street in Sandown has been charged alongside Rio Scott of Park Road in Ryde. They have both been remanded to appear at Southampton Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (Wednesday). Police had been given extra time to quiz 3 people over Tommy Barton’s death.
A 24-year-old woman from Shanklin, who was also arrested on suspicion of murder, has been bailed with conditions until 28th August pending further enquiries.
Forensic investigators have remained at 63A Park Road throughout today conducting further examinations. A cordon remains in place at the front and rear of the property.
Earlier today tributes were paid to 30-year-old Tommy – a keen Arsenal fan and an impressive cricketer.
His family have said:
“We are completely shattered at the loss of Tommy. He was a father, a son, a brother, an uncle and a friend to many.
“He has been stolen from us and we are completely heartbroken. He will miss out on so much of life, particularly seeing his beloved daughter grow up.
“The world is quieter without him in it and we will never fully recover. We are grateful for the support and love that we have received and hope you will all remember him as he was – a caring and generous man that lived his life to the maximum.
Detectives investigating Tommy’s killing would like to hear from anyone they have not yet spoken to who has information that may assist ongoing enquiries, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem. Perhaps you live nearby and saw or heard something that could be related? Or maybe you live in the area and have CCTV or Ring Doorbell footage and have not yet spoken to officers?
