A 2-car crash is causing delays on the main road into East Cowes this afternoon (Wednesday).
Emergency service personnel were first called to the scene on Whippingham Road near the junction with Beatrice Avenue at around 15:50 following reports of a 2-vehicle crash.
At the scene, a Toyota Aygo and a Honda Jazz have collided with one another. Members of the public stopped to assist those involved, prior to the arrival of paramedics – Island Echo understands.
A single ambulance from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is in attendance. It is unclear at this stage if any serious injuries have been sustained.
Traffic in the area is heavy due to the close proximity to Priory School.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being.
UPDATE @ 16:35 – Police have arrived on scene and are currently diverting traffic flow around the scene of the crash.
It would be a very interesting project for the Echo to do a comparison between significant (recorded) RTA incidents per, say, ten thousand vehicles on the Island and the mainland. Are drivers here more or less likely to have a crash? And do I we have a higher or lower rate of single car incidents, with the car leaving the road and turning turtle? I would take a guess at the later ..
I can answer that for you from what I see on a daily
basis on island Roads.
Lol
Also once being an overner like yourself
I have driven many miles on the mainland through
many large cities and they all have 1 thing the
island doesn’t have! – SpeedCamera’s.
I have lived on the island nearly 50 years and it’s
getting worse.
