A car has collided head-on into a lamp post as a result of a 2-car collision in Ryde this morning (Tuesday).
The incident has occurred on West Street, between the junctions of Argyll Street and Arthur Street.
Emergency services have been alerted to the situation and are responding to the scene.
No one appears to have been injured but both vehicles have sustained significant damage.
Morning rush hour traffic is heavy in the area with local diversions in place.
UPDATE @ 08:40 – Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are now on scene and the driver of the Toyota is being checked over by paramedics.
UPDATE @ 08:55 – Both vehicles have been cleared from the carriageway and the road has partially re-opened.
No arrests have been made and the driver of the Toyota has been given the all clear by paramedics, who have now stood down.

Hope people are ok.
It’s horrible driving around this area in rush hour/school times. And roadworks now seem to be a permanent fixture as they move around the streets like a lucky dip.
People pulling in and out of side roads to avoid a traffic light queue, people going through red lights constantly. Horrible. Had many near misses myself.
I suppose it’s like this in most places though.
The lampposts are at it again
more island drivers that need a retest
I am the owner of the Black Mercedes, I would just like to say that the person who hit the back of my car was not a bad person, was not driving recklessly, does not need to re-take their test, and is certainly not an idiot as the comments say.
My car was parked on the road, I was in my house with my family so the most important thing is no one was hurt. They have just made a simple mistake that many people make, we are all human. It’s just metal and plastic that can be replaced.
Before writing scathing things about others, ask yourself if you have made a mistake in the past…
If you cannot drive in a straight line i think the person who crashed into you definitely needs re testing.
Well said. The comments on island echo are home to many perfect folk. I find that very strange as I thought I was the only one
What a load of left wing crap. This useless driver should take a test again. What is the excuse this time, huh. A rogue leaf accelerated across the road causing the so called driver to take evasive action lol.
Well said. Amazing how many “expert” drivers read a scene without knowing any of the details. I would assume that these “experts” have always driven 100% correctly and never made an error of judgement…..yeah, if only. As you correctly pointed out, it’s only metal and plastic maybe repairable. There were no broken bones or possibly worse, everybody was safe. Only injury will be to someone’s confidence. So, let’s all grow up and stop pointing the finger !
