Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has received confirmation from the Government that Islanders will continue to benefit from the ‘Get Around for £2’ bus fare scheme until the end of 2024. Southern Vectis is already signed up to the scheme until the end of December 2023, but in order to extend the scheme, they need their application to be accepted by the Department for Transport. Last month, Mr Seely wrote to former Transport Minister, Richard Holden, in support of Southern Vectis’s application and to seek clarification about how long the scheme will last for. Earlier this week, Mr Seely received confirmation from Mr Holden that the scheme will continue until December 2024 and that Government officials will work with Southern Vectis to ensure the bus operator is able to participate. Mr Seely said:
“The £2 max fare scheme is a brilliant idea from this Conservative Government, it’s helping people to get around and pushing down the cost of living. “Several thousands more Islanders are using the bus – and that includes me, I’ve been on it twice in the last fortnight. “The cheap fares enable more Islanders to use the bus to get to work, attend appointments, and visit friends and family – and they will run next year too.”

Bob the £2 con won’t last and will be phased out when the CON-servatives lose ..the next election .. more important things to fix on the island, schools, ferries, floods, incompetent IWC to name but a few .. why doesn’t the CON-servatives find money to stop the extortionate ferry charges and not fit for purpose service and reliability.. ??
Paid for by the tax payer
I’m not Bob Seely .. you got it.. another stealth cost to us .. still cheaper than 30mins parking ️ in Newport .. just nothing to shop for in Newport It’s dead !! BBF
Now there’s a coincidence… I also used the bus to get to the ferry at the start of my luxury Mediterranean cruise – and a bus to get back again…. a fortnight later! (I wonder if I can claim back the four quid on expenses)
Hang on Bob got on a bus, and got off still alive? How did that happen? He really is deperate to get in next time, but, not a chance Bob, you lot are finished now, bye bye tory liars.
I expect other people were told about the extansion as well, but Bob will claim it as all his own work and a special deal for Islanders.
So does that mean I could take bus from say from Bembridge to Freshwater and it will only cost 2 quid!!!
No, it will coast you £4 because you’ll need two buses
They are doing this because they do not want Cars on the road.
