A 2-bedroom apartment could be formed behind a new laundrette in Sandown.
Deven Thakrar applied to County Hall for a change of use of the rear of Isle of Wight solicitors Jerome and Co’s former ground floor offices at 11 High Street in Sandown.
His proposal is for a flat with a hall, lounge, utility room, kitchen and diner space and garden.
Last year, Mr Thakrar gained council consent to open a new laundrette business at the High Street end of the building’s ground floor.
A Planning Statement included in his application said:
“The site is located at the rear of the property and is considered adequate to accommodate a residential unit to add to Sandown’s housing stock.
“The whole site is controlled by the applicant so there is no impediment to developing the site.
“The proposal will generate additional economic activity and should be beneficial for employment on the Island.”
County Hall’s public consultation on the proposal will close on 4th April and a decision is scheduled to be made on 1st April.
Majority of laundrettes are unmanned,
so I doubt it will create employment for anyone.
Except the keyholder, the maintenance crew, the cleaner, the slot machine emptier…or did you think the business man (effectively the landlord) was going to give up the rest of his life to be available to run it 24/7?
Yes it will be a 1 man band.
I doubt Deven will waste money on hiring
employees.
