2 people – including a teenage boy – have been arrested after 3 people and a Police officer were allegedly assaulted in Newport Town Centre last night (Friday).
Officers were called at 20:43 following reports of a domestic disturbance outside a pub on Pyle Street.
3 people were allegedly assaulted during an altercation with a man, although no injuries were reported.
A 38-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of common assault, using threatening/abusive words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress and possession of a Class C drug.
A larger number of officers then raced to the scene – some travelling the wrong way up Pyle Street – when things kicked off with a teenage boy.
The 17-year-old, from Newport, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.
The incident was brought to a close by 21:15.
The 2 males both remain in custody at this time.
UPDATE SUNDAY – 38-year-old Robert Dave Burnett, of Godric Road in Newport has been charged with using threatening, abusive words and behaviour likely to cause harm, alarm or distress.
He will appear before Magistrates on 10th May.
The teenager arrested on assaulting an emergency worker has been released under investigation.

As for the 38 year old, must be too stupid to be able to go out in public and have a good time.

Our Home Secretary needs to put in place legislation that results in significant consequences for law breaking yobs
The courts need to step up and hand out maximum sentences.
Yobs do not respect the law unless they feel the strong hand of the law.

The Landlords must see if the person is intoxicated, they need to start being model citizens and refuse to sell drink to them. Quality of life is more important than making a quick buck.
