The Isle of Wight Council will be given £1.13million to help households most in need with the cost of daily essentials this winter, as part of a £500million fund.
The Household Support Fund, announced earlier this month, is designed to last throughout the winter months.
The money will be distributed by the Isle of Wight Council to households in need of some additional help. This will broadly consist of small grants to meet daily needs such as food, clothing and utilities.
David Rutley, Minister for Welfare Delivery, has said:
“This funding is there to support those most in need by providing extra help over winter, and by working through local councils we can make sure the vulnerable people in our communities get this vital support.”
The new fund is part of a wider package of support the Government is providing this winter. This includes 2.2 million low-income households being given a £140 rebate on energy bills through the Warm Home Discount, and the Cold Weather Payment providing £25 extra a week for those in need in areas where the temperature is consistently below zero.
Those who think they could benefit should contact the Council for more details on what will be available in their community.
A total of £1,131,576.08 is available on the Island.
More cash then for the usual to spend on spary tans, false nails, eyelashes, tattoos, dope, cocaine, alcohol, growing tent, newer BMW, designer clothes for the kids to go get their free food bundle.
Oh but these people are **vulnerable**. The do gooders have proclaimed them as such, therefore I guess it must be true. It is the people who proclaim wastes of space as such that I have more problem with than the wastes of space themselves, because without the dictats of the do good brigade, the wastes of space would not be able to milk the system like they do. And please note, I am not referring to genuine cases of hardship as is mentioned below by Brolly, I have every sympathy with genuine people who, through no fault of their own, have to apply for help. We have all seen plenty of examples of the other kind though.
perhaps the government would also like to see the taxpayers that are funding these additional handouts finish their own jobs, pay their taxes and then go round and clean the houses of the free loaders because they clearly don’t get enough for free from the state do they. I mean, free housing, free rent, free council tax, free food vouchers, free dental, free prescriptions, free eye tests, child benefit, childcare allowance and everything else provided, clearly just isn’t enough
perhaps they can be provided jobs, to help fill the gaps in the market that we see on the news daily. Get them working and paying there way instead of freeloading.
take it all away then they’ll be robbing what you have. genius
No, send them away! There’s too many of them here, that’s why the IW is now known for being full of chav types; The place is a joke. The UKs most feckless father, and where does he live? Why the isle of wight of course! You couldn’t make it up.
It’s very offensive with comments like this when I’ve worked for 30 years ending up with a spinal injury and a failed surgery making me disabled, claiming PIP and benefits.
Also with a child who has autism who was taken out of school because the schooling system didn’t work.
No I don’t get full council tax paid
No I don’t get full housing paid
No I don’t get food vouchers
Don’t tar everyone with the same brush
Well said!
it is very offensive to me, seeing the tax deduction from my pay each month, which is then handed out to every sob story and sad case going. I work to make money for me – not to have it taken and handed out to others.
as you state – you claim benefits and PIP – therefore you have an income, just like everyone else who also pay their bills – not going to get sympathy for having to pay your way.
years ago they had separate schools for kids that needed extra support – now that the hand wringers wanted everyone together, the reality bites – a class of 30 kids – one teacher – not able to spend time with one kid that needs extra support.
i doubt you earn enough to cover 1 child’s meals for a year, stop being fooled into thinking you’re being robbed by your own and look to the ceo’s & politicians for the real culprits.
Whilst I do believe there should be a safety net to help the vulnerable. A large majority who are of working age will try and claim this are incompetent at running a home. They spend there money in a reckless way then plead poverty thus expecting the state to pick up the tab!!.
Uncle B, I think many KNOW exactly what they are doing. They have realised by ‘playing dumb’ they can have their cake at eat it to.
It is those who fall for their excuses who are ‘incompetent’, as they are living a fine life in many many cases, hence who are the fools?
You’re not allowed to call yourself ‘UncleBen’ anymore- from now on, you’ll be known as ‘Bens Original’! 🙂
