The Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones, has secured £1million of Home Office funding to further deliver on cutting crime and building safer communities. The successful bid is from the 5th round of the Government’s Safer Streets Fund with Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight, Gosport, Havant, Fareham, Eastleigh, Southampton, Winchester, the New Forest, Test Valley, Basingstoke & Deane, Rushmoor and Hart all benefiting. The funding is aimed at tackling neighbourhood crime, violence against women and girls (VAWG) and anti-social behaviour (ASB) across England and Wales and includes the following successful projects for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Project 1 will benefit the Isle of Wight, as well as Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport, Havant and Eastleigh. It includes:
- A Mentors in Violence Prevention support hub for 12 schools in Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight, Havant and Gosport
- A VAWG information hub to support night-time economy workers in Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight, Havant, Gosport, Fareham and Eastleigh
- Increased CCTV and lighting in Sandown to combat ASB
- Outreach work to protect women in the sex industry via the With You project in Isle of Wight, Gosport and Fareham
- Youth Outreach project to engage with 50 young people involved in ASB in Portsmouth, Gosport, Havant, Fareham, Isle of Wight and Eastleigh
The Safer Streets Fund was launched in 2020, with the government investing £120million through 4 rounds of funding, and a further £5million through the Safety of Women at Night Fund. The £42million 5h round, announced in July, means £167million to date has now been invested on 413 projects across England and Wales. PCC Donna Jones said:
“This is fantastic news for our communities. It means we can do so much more to tackle neighbourhood crime, reduce the harm caused by violence against women and tackle anti-social behaviour head on. “I know how distressing these crimes can be and the misery they cause communities. Everyone in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight must feel safe on the streets. This funding means I can do even more to protect the public and make neighbourhoods safer. “Working with the police and partners, we are building more resilient neighbourhoods and making it harder and harder for criminals to act.”
We shant see much of that then. The worst thing we ever did was amalgamate with hampshire.
What about kitting out the IOW police cars with ANPR ???
This should also be used to buy rainbow flags and make up for when the Police take part in the Pride parade.
Yet more ‘care’ after the event have happened.
IF this useless person cared at all, she would focus on preventing crime, such as mugging, knife attacks and rape, instead of more money to mop up blood, etc AFTER the event.

Cameras don’t stop crime .. Police do .. put more Police on the streets, forget token cameras and groups who talk, but no action.. £1M is a drop in the ocean, to sort the problems .. we don’t want or need your 5 minute gimmicks, that disappear, when you do Sorry but your words and your delivery are not aligned.
So the police can drive around in even bigger groups.
Is this one million to cover al of those areas mentioned ? That would just about buy a couple of houses in Yarmouth. I hope I’ve got the wrong idea here.
As always, just another exercise in wasting money on mopping up the blood, semen and mental angst for victims, whilst getting a shrink to talk to the perpetrators in the vain hope that one out of a bunch ‘might’ think twice, next time, or the time after that etc etc.

Pretends to have sympathy, but IF it did, it would be on to even higher levels to insist on more jails or less immigrants who fill them being here.
But easy to keep your pension by saying nothing and ruining British peoples lives.

I hope antisocial behaviour is hammered. Letting it go on unchallenged is damaging for communities causing fear & stress. Perpetrators often go on to more serious crimes because their behaviour goes unpunished. It must cost a fortune but if it’s nipped in the bud maybe it will save money in the end

No you are not Donna – As the jails are nearly full due to the excessive amount of foreigners that are locked up, who should have already been deported, not one single person here on the island will see any jail time for any offence, unless it is at the worse end of offending.
those who engage in anti social behaviour will barely even see the inside of a court and will just ignore anything that is said.
if you really want to make a difference – kick out the illegals, cut the benefit money completely of anyone who is acting against the law and make jail a fearful experience.
