Forecasters at IW Met Service say that the Isle of Wight will be hit by strong winds throughout today (Friday), with a yellow weather warning for wind in place until 16:00 this afternoon.
A spell of very strong south to southwesterly winds are expected this morning with gusts approaching 60mph at times. During the mid/late afternoon a brief spell of even stronger winds are expected with gusts approaching 70mph during the passage of a front which will also bring a short spell of heavy rain.
Tree debris is likely as well as the risk of a few isolated incidents of structural damage.
Cross-Solent travel is already feeling the brunt of the weather with Hovertravel services suspended until at least midday. Other cross-Solent services are operating to timetable so far.
IW Met Service’s weather warning is valid from 06:00 until 16:00 today (8th February). Originally the warning was in force until 20:00, as previously reported by Island Echo.
