The Yar Swing Bridge in Yarmouth has become stuck in an open position this morning (Sunday), resulting in the main road between Yarmouth and Freshwater being closed to both vehicles and pedestrians.
The cause behind the mechanical failure is currently unknown and it’s unclear when the issue will be resolved.
Motorists are having to divert from the A3054 via Thorley Road, Wilmingham Lane, Newport Road, Afton Road, Hooke Hill and Copse Lane in both directions.
Southern Vectis Route 7 buses are diverting via Wilmingham Lane, Middle Road and Afton Road in both directions. Bus stops from Norton Grange to Hooke Hill Bottom cannot be served in either direction.
Access to the Wightlink Car Ferry can only be accessed from the East.
UPDATE @ 14:57 – Yarmouth Bridge has now reopened in both directions.

I hope the Cowes floating bridge manufacturers haven’t played a part in this
Maybe a good idea to send the floating bridge over there to help out ?
Maybe they need a floating bridge.
Blimey, aren’t you going to harp on about a tunnel or another bridge like you normally do.
I blame the Audi driver
probably left open to let boat loads of immigrants in
Likely needs a squirt of WD 40 and a swonk with a large hammer.
