UPDATED: Volunteers from both Cowes RNLI and Yarmouth RNLI have launched to assist a 46ft catamaran in the Solent this evening (Tuesday).
The call for assistance was made to Solent Coastguard by the casualty vessel shortly before 17:45, prompting the launch of Cowes’ Atlantic 85 lifeboat.
Due to the size of the catamaran the assistance of Yarmouth RNLI’s Severn-class All Weather Lifeboat has been called upon. The lifeboat was tasked to launch at 18:10.
It’s thought ‘Amina’ – with 4 persons on board – is experiencing steering difficulties to the north of Gurnard. The vessel departed from Hamble shortly after 15:00 this afternoon.
Tonight’s incident is the first shout of the year for the Cowes and Yarmouth lifeboat crews.
UPDATE @ 19:20 – The catamaran has been successfully towed to Trinity Landing in Cowes, where The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team have met with lifeboat crews and the 4 persons on board Amina.
Yarmouth Lifeboat is now making her journey west to return to station.
