27-year-old Felix Hetherington has been convicted of causing grievous bodily harm without intent after seriously injuring another man by beating him so badly was left with a bleed on the brain.
In the early hours of the morning on 21st February 2021, Police were called by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service to a property off Caesars Road in Newport, following reports that a man had been knocked unconscious.
The victim, a man in his 50s, was found bleeding from the nose, mouth and ears. He was rushed to hospital and required emergency surgery to save his life.
Enquiries led police to 27-year-old Felix Hetherington, of St Edmund’s Walk in Wootton, who was arrested for the assault. A total of 5 people were arrested, 2 on suspicion of attempted murder.
During a trial at the Isle of Wight Crown Court this week, jurors heard how Hetherington had badly beaten the victim, leaving him in a life-threatening condition in hospital.
As a result of the assault, the man suffered a concussion, a fractured wrist, a fractured cheek, a fractured jaw, a bleed on the brain and abdominal trauma which required immediate surgery.
The court heard that he would have died had it not been for medical intervention.
Hetherington was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent – an offence he denied. However, yesterday (Thursday), after 3 hours of deliberation, the jury found Hetherington guilty of causing grievous bodily harm without intent.
The case has been adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be compiled. Felix Hetherington has been remanded in custody to appear before the Isle of Wight Crown Court for sentencing on 20th January 2023.

“Without intent” – he didn’t mean to beat him up or hurt him?
No intent of murder
There was no murder charge….
Quite right IF. ‘Suspicion of attempted murder’. Why would they suspect that and bring it into the mix if there was no real chance of making any charge stick? Or was there a reason because of threats issued previously, or what? There seems to be a lot of this sort of ‘suspicion of’ stuff about of late. If they charge someone with attempted murder when they were patently not intending to kill the victim, the CPS are straightaway on dodgy ground, so why throw these announcements around?
why Does everyone post negative comments all the time when you never know the full circumstances of the event that took place.
Throw the key away the piece of shite
Surely 1 punch would be grievous bodily harm without intent. More than 1 punch would be grievous bodily harm with intent.
What rubbish court again,if you kick, punch, knife someone ,not in self defence, is clearly intent + intention to harm . This was not a play fight . If I was to drive my car at a person on pavement my intention is to harm or worse. The worse should be what you are guilty of.
‘I stabbed him in the chest to kill him “,oh he survived best change my intention to “was only trying to frighten him “get less sentence. Attempted murder should carry same punishment as murder as victim would be suffering long term life changing injuries and post traumatic stress etc, victim wouldn’t if dead!.
