A Cowes charity supporting people living with dementia, as well as their families and carers, has received a £750 boost from Southern Vectis to help improve its facilities.
Parklands Dementia Resource Centre, based in Park Road, provides activities and support aimed at promoting wellbeing, independence and community connections.
The charity plans to use the £750 donation from Southern Vectis’ community fund towards new furniture, including tables and chairs, as it looks to accommodate more visitors and expand its wellbeing service.
Parklands operates a Wellbeing Club offering daytime activities in a sociable community setting, alongside its Parklands Cafe, which is open to everyone.
Donna White, Executive Manager of Parklands Dementia Resource Centre, has said:
“We offer a Wellbeing Club, with stimulating daytime activities in a sociable, community based, setting – supporting confidence independence and joy.
“We also run the Parklands Cafe, which is open to everyone, and offers delicious food, warm company and a welcoming atmosphere. As a charity, we rely on donations from local people and businesses – which are vital in helping us provide much-needed support to those visiting us.
“We’d like to expand our well-being service, which also provides signposting and access to important local services that many people here rely on.
Article continues below this advertisement “To accommodate more visitors, we’ve been wanting to invest in new furniture – including chairs and tables. Southern Vectis offers local charities and organisations financial support from its community fund, so we approached them for a donation.
“We were delighted to receive £750, which will go a long way to kitting out our resource centre and cafe. I’d like to thank Southern Vectis for its generous support.”
Southern Vectis says its drivers are trained to be dementia friendly, with the bus operator working to make its services more accessible.
Simon Moye, Operations Manager at Southern Vectis, has said:
“I’m delighted we have been able to help support local people with dementia. We know our bus services provide a vital lifeline for many who travel with us – helping them to access local services and providing much-needed social interaction.
“Our drivers are trained to be ‘dementia friendly’ and we work hard to make travelling by bus more accessible for all.
“With this in mind, I couldn’t think of a more worthy cause for our community fund to support.”
Parklands Dementia Resource Centre is open Monday-Friday from 08:30-16:30.
