Emergency services were called to Ceasers Road in the town shortly before 00:40 following reports of a property fire.
Island Echo is told that an ‘intoxicated’ resident had a female guest around last night, breaking the lockdown rules put in place by the Government due to coronavirus.
For reasons unknown it is said that the guest set a fire within the property during her visit.
Fire crews from Newport and Cowes were mobilised to the scene alongside the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police, with initial reports suggesting 2 people were trapped inside.
The fire was reported to be located in a bedroom on the first floor.
Firefighters used 2 hose reels and 4 breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.
According to one resident, the property has been left blackened by the smoke and the electric supply has been cut.
The pregnant woman attempting to isolate from risk has had to seek shelter at a family member’s house.
