A woman who was involved in a collision that caused the tragic death of a scooterist in Apse Heath on Thursday evening has been released from police custody after being arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to a crash outside the entrance to the Willow Brook and Ninham Farm campsite on Newport Road at around 21:45 on Thursday evening after a serious collision occurred between a car – a Citroen C3 – and a scooter.
The rider of the scooter – a man over from Germany who was set to take part in the annual Scooter Rally – was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 36-year-old woman from Ventnor was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
However it has been confirmed by Hampshire Constabulary – just 2 days later that the woman has been released from custody whilst the investigation continues.

Why has she been released
Because the police do not think she was at fault as the scooter driver was on the wrong side of the road, being from Germany he sadly forgot which side of the road to drive on. Fact confirmed by witnesses
So WHY was she arrested to start with ? !!!!
I just hope that you have got your facts right.
Because it’s standard procedure when a death is involved
I just hope that you’ll see sense one day Ting tong. But it remains unlikely.
Because this evidence has only just come to light
Looks like it was rear ended… then that statement wouldn’t make sense?
Oh this is tragic if that was the case of him being on the wrong side of the road. RIP fella.
This so called “fact” is hearsay.
Really. ? Not evidence supported?
Hearsay .
This is normal procedure until all the evidence is produced which could be months away, and when she answers her bail she will be interviewed fully then CPS will make the final decision.
The question could be reversed Why arrest ? What has to be appreciated is there are Two investigations. One on behalf of HM Coroner to rule on the persons death, in one of the various judgements, Accidental, homicide, Natural cause etc. that can take time , months, The second file is to look at the evidence to see if a criminal offence has been committed, witness statements, accident investigation, vehicle examinations, again that takes time. Therefore to keep the driver in custody for that period of time unless there are very strong reasons would be unfair. I can assure you , having dealt with such incidents, that it’s a very sad situation not only has a life been lost, but the.physiological injuries have a major impact on peoples lives. I do not know the people involved but they deserve all our sympathy.
To give police time to consider evidence. These things take time to consider all the facts. From the post by no name, it seems there is strong evidence to support a decision of ‘no futher action. However, at the time, the correct thing to do was to arrest her ‘on suspicion’.Distressful for the woman, but that’s the correct procedure.
Could be any one of us tomorrow going about our business. I often encounter the corner cutters across the white line on my side of the road every day on my commute. But this was a tragic accident. The poor driver has had to suffer the trauma of this individuals demise. Then arrested instead of counselling. And the potential loss of her vehicle, and possibly earnings on top of that. Nightmares for a considerable time I would guess.
Cannot see any comments coming through apologising for slaughtering the car driver
for being drunk on taking drugs etc.
And why are we not remotely surprised. Some really despicable individuals write some particularly venomous (and usually poorly spelt) uninformed rubbish on here.
They do indeed.
Again the tide has turned into the lady driving being almost fully exonerated.
That may well be the case, yet it has to be said that many drivers are on drugs etc, and Ventnor drivers not being an exception
So even if the German rider had forgot for a moment on which side to ride on a drugged up driver would be less likely to think quickly and take evasive action.
So nothing is certain yet apart from a life is taken and a family miles away life is ruined forever due to an easy on a bike to make mistake.
The only one who seems to be on drugs is you Windy. Take your bluff elsewhere….
I will post my comments as I see fit. Not have some jumped up key board jerk telling me what to do.
You tell him Wendy….x
Rude!!!!! Facts though. Yes?
Once again, all is not quite as it seemed or quite so clear-cut as was made out by the original reporting here.
Maybe with these cases it would be better to switch off the comments until it’s clear exactly what happened, and especially so when an arrest has been made. This is standard practice these days with many online news sites and the Echo really needs to follow suit.
If nothing else, it would give everyone commenting time to think and not post knee-jerk comments when none of the facts are known.
Tragic though? Unfortunate maybe.
