A 79-year-old woman from Newport has died following what is believed to be a medical episode at the wheel in Carisbrooke yesterday evening (Tuesday).
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to Mountbatten Drive at around 17:10 following reports that a purple Peugeot 107 had collided with a number of parked vehicles as a result of the driver being taken unwell.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service sent 3 ambulance crews to the scene and CPR was commenced at the roadside, with members of the public initially provided assistance.
The woman was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in a critical condition but she sadly died earlier this morning (Wednesday).
Police are now appealing for witnesses and information following last night’s collision, which damaged a total of 11 vehicles.
Anyone with information who has not already spoken to Police is asked to come forward, particularly anyone with relevant dash-cam or CCTV footage of the incident.
Anyone with information should call 101 or report online using reference number 44230052396.

My condolences to her family at this difficult time. Let’s see if people can show some respect on here, instead of the usual inane rubbish
Dangermouse, sadly not just inane rubbish but disgusting hate and discrimination as well, sadly the trolls somehow imagine they are being clever.
Somehow far to many comments are allowed on Island echo, free speech is one thing, abuse of that right that goes unchecked is quite something else!
My sincere condolences are passed to family and friends.
I’ve got a little collection that I screenshot of all the biased narratives that IE wont let me post when they clearly are within the bounds of free speech. Can I sue?especially if these comments which have been banned are on political stories…
How about contacting the editor at Island Echo for an explanation? If you are not happy then take it further.
Take responsibility and act on the facts as you see them rather than make accusations on social media.
Kev where is Bev
Yes – the anti white, anti worker, anti support yourself and stand on your own two feet, anti prosperity, anti anything that doesn’t involve pandering to the permanently offended minority is unacceptable in a free speech, majority rules, democracy.
well said for raising the point reg.
What i cant understand DM, is that some of my quite innocent comments are removed by the Author. I’m sure other people get this happening to them.
The comments that get the most up votes or down votes usually get kept.
RIP. Condolences to this ladies family and friends.
That is very sad, but at least no innocent people were hurt.
shes not uninnocent?
Maybe the over 70’s should not drive for everyone safety
Chris, you’re thinking out of your backside. This poor lady had a medical episode and we should think of her family, not her age. Also, why hide behind a made-up name instead of being brave and use your proper name?
And so the ageist rubbish starts, disrespectful individual.
A medical incident can happen to anyone of any age. I know of a 23year old who had a heart attack whilst driving and died. He did not drink or take drugs and was a medical student. I am sure that a 70 year old has more driving experience than yourself and no doubt a better driver than you could ever wish to be.
One less of the roads.Hope her insurance covers the damages of my car
Stay classy.
Very sad. My condolences to family and friends. However, Not the first incident like this in the past few months. Isn’t it time we started testing older drivers as with lorries and busses? Cars are still killing machines.
Or how about testing you to ascertain if you actually possess any brain cells?
