A Shanklin woman found in possession of both cannabis and heroin let out a loud gasp as she was sentenced at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week.
Louise Robinson, of Atherley Road in Shanklin, admitted possession of a controlled drug of Class A (Heroin) and possession of a drug of Class B (Cannabis) when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday (4th March).
Crown Prosecution Service Prosecutor, Leah Dillon, told the court that Robinson was brought to court following the recent execution of a warrant after she failed to attend on 17th January.
Discussing the facts of the case, the court heard how illegal substances were found on Robinson’s person during the search of a friends address in Shanklin. During the search, officers found a clingfilm wrap containing heroin and a bag of weed. Robinson admitted that both of the illicit substances were for her own personal use.
Ms Dillon told the court that Robinson had admitted she paid £20 for the heroin and £25 for the cannabis.
Robinson has just 2 previous convictions on her record with a previous possession offence recorded back in 2014.
Defending Robinson – a trainee baker – Oscar Vincent said that his client would have turned up for the January hearing had she received the postal requisition. Mr Vincent also said that since her arrest Robinson has begun work with Inclusion IOW and Isorropia Foundation.
Magistrates dealt with the offences by way of a financial penalty. Robinson was fined £175 for the possession of heroin and £116 for the possession of cannabis. She was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £116 surcharge fee.
When she heard how much she was being fined, Robinson gasped and said ‘wow – that’s very expensive’.
It’s about time druggies were banged up,
fines don’t solve anything, probably will be
paid by benefit money.
She has always worked, very judgemental comment,
She should know better then.
Not as expensive as the amount it wastes on drugs.
Given the previous for possession, she should have been before a judge in the Crown Court for sentence. These fines are derisory and will deter no one. Is it any wonder our country is rife with drugs?
Well said.
This current Labour Government keep saying
they are going to get tough on crime, they are as soft
as a marshmallow!
