Police are looking for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage following an incident in which a Ryde man crashed a stolen car on Medina Way yesterday (Wednesday). As previously reported by Island Echo, officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were called at 11:22 yesterday (10th April) to reports of a road traffic collision on the southbound carriageway of Medina Way. The crash involved a red Honda Civic, blue BMW X5, black Kia Sorrento, and grey Nissan Qashqai. Minor injuries were reported. The Honda Civic had been reported stolen earlier that day, between 07:30 and 11:00, from the car park of Lushington Garden Centre. A 25-year-old man from Ryde has been arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and drink driving. He remains in custody. A spokesperson from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“We would like to speak to any witnesses of this collision, and anyone with relevant dash cam footage. “We would particularly like to speak to anyone who saw any of the vehicles travelling on Fairlee Road, Coppins Bridge or Medina Way prior to the collision. “If you have any information relevant to our investigation, please call 101 quoting reference 44240149819 or report online via our website.”
UPDATE @ 15:45 – George James Swain, 25, of Mary Rose Avenue in Wootton Bridge, has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance. He will appear at Newport Magistrates Court today (11th April).

So the car was know as stolen the car hit other cars the man was arrested at the scene and they still want need witnesses
To mitigate any potential defence.
It’s the Polices’s job to gather as much evidence as possible. There are several offences here not just stealing the vehicle.
So just get a £2 fine then..maybe pay it back over 10 years..
Nothing as harsh as that, from our naïve magistrates who love a good story.
I like driving in my car beep beep
If we had a real police force he would have been found before this happened. Now cops just record the crime and go back to sleep. That car looks like it’s had some money spent on it, real shame, they are starting to become collectable.
More chance of catching a cold.
The usual honda chavic!
Why should have to people have to ring there insurance for someone idiots that smash your vehicle there the ones that should pay the damage as they coursed the accident not the insurance people should pay
