Wightlink has confirmed its continued support for Isle of Wight organisations through its long-running Wightlink in the Community initiative, with similar levels of sponsorship planned for 2026 after backing more than 14,000 cross-Solent journeys in 2025.
Now entering its 39th year, the programme supports a wide range of sporting, arts, environmental and charitable groups across the Isle of Wight. In the year ahead, Wightlink will back 20 sporting teams, 10 arts organisations and 5 environmental groups, alongside renewing partnerships with 10 Island-based charities. Ad-hoc support for additional charitable and community projects will also continue throughout 2026.
The ferry firm also remains a key sponsor of individual athletes, working alongside the Isle of Wight Council’s Talented Athlete Scheme. This year, 82 young sportspeople will benefit from funded travel to access training, competitions and development opportunities on the mainland.
Among the many groups to benefit in 2025 was Sporting Opportunities Isle of Wight, whose athletes won medals in bowls, athletics and football – including a trophy win during their footballers’ debut competitive fixture in May.

“Wightlink’s support makes an enormous difference to our members. Being able to travel to the mainland opens opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach, not just to compete but to build confidence, independence and a real sense of belonging.
“Sporting Opportunities is about more than results; it’s about shared effort, pride and inclusion and we’re incredibly grateful to Wightlink for helping our athletes feel valued and proud to represent the Isle of Wight.”
The Wightlink Cycle Race Team also marked a strong year of results, including 7-year-old Finley Manser-Grundy winning the 2025 Go-Ride Downhill Series Champion title. Wight Eagles Academy FC also celebrated league wins for both its Under-13 and Under-15 sides.
