Wight Tri members, Dean Pike and Dan Shortman took on the London Standard Triathlon with the swim taking place in the London Docks and the transition indoors at the Excel Centre.
The huge event, which sees several triathlons of varying distances taking place during the Saturday and Sunday schedule, includes the BTF Age group team 2023 European Championships qualification event.
Both men were entered into the Pulse event on the Sunday morning, with both putting in great performances.
Dan had a very good swim and was first out of the swim in 29:17, with Dean exiting the docks in 31:48, around mid-pack.
After a long run upstairs and inside into the Excel to the transition, and then pushing their bikes back down to the Mount line, transition times were well over 3mins, but they were eventually onto their bikes and heading for the 1.5 lap 36km cycle route.
Dean got quickly into a fast pace and posted a very quick split of 1:00:54 to make up several places in his 40-44 age group.
Dan, however, ended up doing 1 extra lap and cycled a 2nd 10 km loop to finish in 1:25:05. Unfortunately, negotiating where the laps split was very confusing as there were so many competitors on the course.
Both had excellent runs, with Dean posting a swift 43:39 again passing several triathletes and Dan a solid 48:32 to come home in finishing times of 2:22:49 and 2:50:28 respectively.
Dean had a super race to finish 2nd in the 40-44 category in the Pulse Event and 17th male from 975 overall. Dan finished 2nd in the Open age group Pulse event, just missing 1st due to his extra lap.
