Over 40 WI ladies from Upton Girls, Appley and Bembridge Windmill WIs recently gathered in Brading for a jolly evening of line dancing.
The 3 WI cohorts make up the Spithead Group, who take it in turns to organise events for all members to attend; this time it was the turn of Upton Girls to be the hosts at St Mary’s Church Hall.
There was a great turnout of cowboy boots, hats, jeans and waistcoats with the Long Island Stompers line dance company engaged to demonstrate and call the moves.
The Charleston steps, grapevines, pivot turns and heel digs were more complicated once the music got going and there was much hilarity when many of the ladies discovered they did not know their left foot from their right.
Although no one was likely to be called up for the next series of Strictly, it was agreed that it was a great way to get everyone moving.
Despite most of the ladies never having tried line dancing before, it had been a really enjoyable and fun evening, which culminated in glasses of wine, sweet and savoury nibbles, plus a raffle.
