The Isle of Wight’s very own Wet Leg scooped 2 BRIT Awards at tonight’s star-studded ceremony at The O2 Arena in London, including Best New Artist, just a week after bagging 2 Grammy awards in Los Angeles.
Rhian Teasdale, Hester Chambers and the rest of the band took to the stage earlier on this evening (Saturday) to perform to the thousands gathered, as well as the rest of the country live on ITV1 and ITV X.
Other stars performing tonight included Sam Smith, David Guetta, Lizzo and Harry Styles.
Wet Leg’s success at The BRITS 2022 follows 2 prestigious Grammy awards for Best Alternative Album and Best Alternative Music Performance, with BRIT Awards for Best New Artist and Group of the Year now added to the impressive haul.
The group were nominated for a total of 4 awards tonight but sadly missed out on Mastercard Album of the Year to Harry Styles and Best Rock/Alternative Act to The 1975.
It is going to be a whirlwind year for Wet Leg. Having just kicked off their tour support for Harry Styles in America, the band will fly to Australia and New Zealand before going on to perform in Japan and Mexico and Coachella in California.
Returning to the UK, Wet Leg will play Reading & Leeds Festivals, as well as being special guests for Pulp at Finsbury Park in London.
The self-named album ‘Wet Leg’ was released in April and has quickly become 1 of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2022. The band’s debut single ‘Chaise Longue’ was followed by a string of impressive hits, including ‘Wet Dream’ and ‘Ur Mum’. The band’s promotion of the album saw them become a late-night favourite, with performances on Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Later With… Jools Holland and a very early booking on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert.
The album received rave reviews and profiles from the likes of The New Yorker, The Guardian, New York Times, NME, Mojo, The Face, Rolling Stone UK and more before winning at the AIM and Libera Awards and being shortlisted for the coveted Mercury Prize.
Wet Leg debuted at No.1 in the UK and Australia and at No.14 on the US Billboard 200 Album Chart.

While I’m pleased we have produced something decent for a change from the island, there are sporting exceptions of course, why are they trying to be so ‘with it’ just come over as pretentious, self righteous Cowes lovey’s in our view. It’s not my cuppa tea but I’m pleased for them none the less.
