Repairs to the damaged traffic lights at Westridge Cross in Ryde are set to be undertaken tomorrow night (Wednesday), it has been confirmed. Temporary traffic lights have been in place at the busy 4-way junction for the past week due to a lorry wiping out 1 of the permanent traffic lights. A head and pole located on the eastern side of the junction, on the southern corner of Bullen Road and Brading Road, were damaged beyond repair. Motorists have faced significant disruption in the area since, especially those travelling into Ryde from the Tesco and Brading direction. The delays have been so significant that some drivers have been diverting via Harding Shute, Green Lane and Ashey Road to bypass the queues. Rumours have circulated that it could be weeks before the temporary lights are removed. However, Island Roads has confirmed to Island Echo that it plans to undertake the required repairs tomorrow evening (Wednesday). The work is being done with the existing temporary lights in place and it is hoped that the work will be completed within several hours.
