e-Scooter and e-Bike operator, Voi, is encouraging riders to take its online safety training – with the next ones taking place on Tuesday 23rd July 2024. The free riding skills webinars are running throughout 2024 to help people use e-Scooters and e-Bikes safely – and anyone completing one of them will get 30 minutes of free riding credits. Delivered by Voi’s road safety partner TTC Group, the Ride Safe webinars complement Voi’s online Ride Safe Academy safety training. The hour-long webinars will cover key aspects of safely riding a Voi e-scooter or e-bike, from how to start a ride, traffic rules, road riding etiquette, and how to park without causing an obstruction for pedestrians. The next live webinars take place on Tuesday 23rd July, from 12:00-13:00 and from 13:15-14:15, and can be booked via eventbrite.co.uk here. Louise Elstone, Vulnerable Road User Training Programme Manager at TTC, says:
“We are delighted to be partnering with Voi again this year to deliver Ride Safe webinars. These monthly one-hour webinars are designed to give an overview of how to get started and what to expect on your first Voi ride.” “In 2023 we delivered over 35 Ride Safe events and webinars, reaching more than 1,100 Voi users.”
James Bolton, General Manager at Voi UK, adds:
“By offering a free and accessible way to learn about e-scooter safety and traffic rules, we are empowering our riders to make safer choices and contribute to safer streets for everyone. “With RideSafe Academy and our new webinars, we aim to set a new standard for the micromobility industry, emphasising the importance of education in creating a more responsible and sustainable urban future. “I hope it gives even more people the confidence to use an e-scooter as a great way to get around without causing congestion or pollution.”

And who’s going to attend/logon to that? No-one is interested in scooter safety least of all Voi.. They’re just paying lip service and appearing to be ‘goody two shoes’… People that ride these scooters are supposed to have a driving licence and with that, hopefully, comes a sense of safety.
The Beryl experience was supposed to be a trial. They were green scooters. So now we have to have another trial with pink scooters?
They are red
Definitely Pink ,think you need to get sight tested. What is bad is that the IOW council has allowed so much pollution a) during mining and making of lithium batteries,The carbon dioxide and other greenhouse emissions that come with the process of lithium mining, extraction and overall production are worse for the climate than the production of fossil fuel-powered vehicles. b) thousands of people forced into poverty and out of homes for big mining companies c) now the destruction of many hundreds of Beryl machines causing pollution and landfill… Plus metal, plastic, paint etc.
Most of the raw minerals are mined by the hands of child slaves to save on greenhouse gasses.
Northampton was the first town to get Voi Scooters, which were painted red. However, over time, with the sun’s bleaching, they have become pink in colour.
Is the Island saturated with ‘seconds’ and not brand-new scooters?
Like the ones in Portsmouth, the Voi scooters start off red but fade to a dirty pink colour.
Hard to choose, the red turning dirty pink, or the dirty pink turning murky shades of brown from the dirty pollutants filling Cities.
Reform would done more than the Greens to limit such harmful damage.
Really? Is this yet another undeclared Deform manifesto?
Jings man, love the subtle posting style. Get your drift guy.
Can we agree on ” a tasteful salmon”?
The sooner they are legaised the better, but with licence/insurance ( dirt cheap) and compulsory helmet.
Like trying to educate pork!
If they were really interested in e-scooter safety, they wouldn’t let children ride them.
Legally, you’re supposed to have a valid driving licence to hire an e-scooter but, given that many of the scooters are deliberately parked near schools, why are Voi, and Beryl before them, parking them near schools to entice kids to use them?
It’s someone with a driving licence etc. that logs on, etc. then hands the scooter over to a kid. They both need prosecting if caught…
There is something undeclared about this second so-called trial. And the hands-off attitude of police and IWCouncil begs many questions.
moany bunch of old farts, go and have a try might cheer you up. Isle of Whinge
We don’t want them here. Why should we all be wobbling about, exposed to the elements or wind, rain, cold, and that’s just the Summer, then risk getting knocked off or injured by some drunk / drugged up Chav in a second hand Beemer, all paid for by the state benefits.
No we need cheaper cars and make those at the top use these dangerous, uncomfortable, slow machines IF they dare
IF we never had so many people filling our country, then with a falling birth rate, roads WOULD have become quieter, but now, since the third world has outbreed its own lands, and is busy doing the same to the West, we are running out of space. Should have vote for reform not labour, for they will make the problems worse. THINK next time, if capable.
We saw one of these Scooters close-up earlier on it was very well worn and showing signs of
corrosion on some of the metal parts anyone know how often these scooters and bikes get a safety check .
Oblivioulsly the IOW has been given used machines from the mainland !!
These contractions are an Health and Safety Hazard!
They are being ridden by Numpties with NO
Safety helmets etc
These contractions should be crushed for the
Safety of Islanders.
They are left on footpaths blocking the way for pedestrians,
disabled persons and young mums pushing prams etc
“Contractions”? – I think you mean CONTRAPTIONS. – ‘Hard to believe you are an “ex Health and Safety officer” if you are so easily confused!
Computer entered incorrect word, contraptions is correct
give yourself a gold star
Smart a@se.
Thanks, I will!
Should be “Smart @rse”, sorry to be pedantic…… hehehe
So this trend is from China. After the ‘trial’ they go into landfill. You get a load of subitises, do a scheme just enough to justify the grant money, walk away when the free money dries up. This is really bad for real schemes designed to reduce our emissions. It gives the climate denying idiots valid talking points. Should never be allowed, what the people need is free public transport. No excuse to not taking that job in another town. No excuse for not being able to sign on. For the lower wage, save so much money, will need less benefit money. It’s a win win move. But instead we get these bits of junk dumped all over the place.
Just ban them instead of suggesting to have training.
Who cares what colour they are, when they
are crushed they all look the same.
These UNSAFE scooters need crushing,
keep our roads safe.
