The Wightlink-Wight Mountain Cycle Racing Team stepped up to the mark again last week, racing at several events on the mainland.
On Tuesday, despite the adverse weather and gale-force winds, team riders James Veal and Jerry Cooper put in a strong performance at the Thruxton Motor Racing Circuit.
The inevitable breaks appeared early in the 12-lap race, with the extreme headwinds taking its toll on the bunch which led to a split after 3 laps. James put in a powerful display, dug in to stay with the front group and sprinted home to take a well-deserved 3rd place. Jerry finished well with the remainder of the field.
Stuart Waite travelled to the Mountbatten Circuit in Portsmouth to compete in the 3rd Cat race on Wednesday.
Although he put in several attacks, the finish came down to a bunch sprint and Stuart powered home to take his first win of the season.
Further afield, Joe Staunton rode in his first National event since October 2019 in the Totnes Vire National B 145km, 3 lap circuit, in Devon.
With an exceptionally strong field comprising of riders from multiple big British teams, the English and Welsh Junior National sides and 2500m of climbing, Joe was up against it from the start. He showed his class by staying with the bunch for the first 2 laps of the race but got caught out with a fair few of the field on the last lap and rode home in just under 2 hours, no mean feat on such a brutal course.
