Newport based firm IDML have recently created their first apprenticeship position for Islander Declan Toogood.
Declan is set to take full advantage of his Level 2 Apprenticeship in Operational Performance supported by The Isle of Wight College.
Working closely with The Isle of Wight College, IDML wanted to develop a work based programme that was designed to specifically meet the needs of IDML as a leading provider of high-quality uniform, work wear and corporate wear in a way that would enable great young talent to be brought into the business. The apprenticeship scheme was perfect for this.
Tomas Phillips, Director of IDML said:
“Apprenticeships cover a broad spectrum of skills and can be tailored to meet the needs of a business such as ours making it a real win-win situation and perfect for both IDML and Declan.”
The apprenticeship being undertaken by Declan will take up to 2 years to complete, during which time he will be supported at work by IDML and also The Isle of Wight College, whose assessors and training officers will regularly meet with Declan and IDML to ensure both receive the very best from the apprenticeship programme.
Declan adds:
“I wanted something more vocational with a company that provided a good learning environment and would work closely with me to develop my skills. As a smaller but leading business IDML was the perfect match for me.”
The interest in an apprenticeship was first sparked by Declan’s father, Darren who is already part of the team at IDML which now sees the father and son team working together to produce clothing for businesses, organisations, schools and societies across the Island.
