UPDATED: Two people, a man and a woman, have been arrested this morning as part of a Metropolitan Police investigation named Operation Elveden – an investigation into allegations of inappropriate payments to police and other officials.
Police have confirmed that a 55-year-old tutor was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause misconduct in a public office contrary to the Criminal Law Act 1977 at Red Funnel in East Cowes.
Meanwhile, a 55-year-old woman – who is believed to be a retired prison worker – was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public Office contrary to Common Law and Conspiracy to Commit Misconduct in a Public Office contrary to the Criminal Law Act 1977 at her home address.
This morning, Police officers forced a Red Funnel ferry to return to port at East Cowes.
So far this year, 82 people had been questioned under Operation Elveden including national newspaper employees and Police officers.
The male and female are both being questioned at a Newport Police Station while search take place at their home addresses.
UPDATE FRIDAY: It has been confirmed this morning that both the 55-year-old male – believed to be a training manager – and the 55-year-old female – understood to be a retired prison official- have been released on bail until March 2014 pending further enquiries.
