Motorists are celebrating after temporary 3-way traffic lights which have caused 5-months of delays at Downend, have been removed.
Temporary traffic signals were put in place after a collision in September 2025 damaged the original control box beyond repair.
Island Roads said the replacement box had to be specially manufactured for the location, before permanent repairs could be completed.
Taking to Facebook, Hare and Hounds pub, who had to put up with the closure, has said:
“The lights are now repaired I repeat, the lights are now repaired.”
It as taken nearly as long as it is to remove the caravan….
They couldn’t undo a packet of crisps between them.
And what pathetic excuse has IR got for that delay? Probably unable to find an alternative location.

Astonishing that it could take so long to replace the control box. What would happen if 5 or 6 control boxes were to fail at once in Central London? Would the capital be gridlocked until new units were brought in? I really don’t think so. Why do we have to endure such appalling service here on the Island. I am virtually lost for words at the constant ineptitude of those that we pay to serve us.
