3 men have been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a flat fire in Newport.
As previously reported by Island Echo, fire crews were called to Barton Road, Pan at around 23:15 on Friday night when it was reported a fire had broke out in a ground floor flat.
The scene was shook cordoned off and Police yesterday confirmed that the incident was being treated as a suspected arson attack.
Now, Hampshire Constabulary has said that a 24-year-old man from Carisbrooke, a 20-year-old man from Newport and a 18-year-old man from Newport have been arrested and questioned on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
The trio have been released pending further enquiries.
Specialist fire investigation dogs from the mainland have been carrying out a forensic examination of the scene today (Sunday) as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.
Thankfully, no one was injured in Friday’s fire.
Once upon a time, arson was rewarded with a life sentence. I wonder what they will get these days if found guilty?
There are no consequences to crime in the UK. A bit of a telling off, reports written, then buried.
What makes someone so young with their whole lives ahead of them do something like this? There mindset is well and truly screwed up…..
