Trees are falling across main roads and cross-Solent travel is disrupted as stormy weather hits, with winds of up to 75mph expected across the Isle of Wight tonight (Bank Holiday Monday).
Island Roads are already dealing with fallen trees on St John’s Road in Wroxall, Melville Street in Ryde, School Green Road in Freshwater and Calthorpe Road at Pondwell.
Hovertravel have suspended their Ryde-Southsea service, as have Red Funnel with their hi-speed Red Jet Service between West Cowes and Southampton. However, the car ferries are still running.
Gusts of 68mph have already been recorded in Shanklin this evening.
The wind is expected to get worse as the night goes on and disruption is expected to continue into tomorrow morning (Tuesday).
An amber weather warning is in force until 06:00 tomorrow.
UPDATE @ 22:50 – Further disruption is being felt, with Red Funnel cancelling the 23:55 sailing from Southampton.
A tree is also reported to be down on Forest Road, Newport.
Trees are also reported to be causing an obstruction on Eleanors Grove, between Binstead and Fishbourne.
UPDATE @ 23:00 – The tree at Melville Street has been cleared by local tree surgeon Jude Ridler of Greenscapes Tree Care.
UPDATE @ 23:15 – There have been 2 reports of power cuts on the Island this evening, 1 in Godshill and the other in Freshwater.
Godshill: Power went off at 22:00, with 5 postcode areas affected. Engineers are expected to attend at approximately 23:15 with power being expected to be restored at 02:00.
Freshwater: Power went off at 22:06, with 9 postcode areas affected. Engineers are expected to attend at approximately 23:15 with power being expected to be restored at 01:40.

Trees down, but our council decided it was right to fell all the trees in Los Altos Park, and big mead. The council are destroying healthy trees, when weak trees are left to mother nature. Something isn’t right
