4,650 Islanders have joined 1.8million other people in signing a petition calling for a General Election, in protest of ‘two-tier Keir’s’ Government.
The petition, started by a disgruntled pub landlord, states that the current Labour Government has gone back on the promises laid out in the lead-up to the last election and therefore calls for a General Election to be held.
2,410 people living in the Conservative-held Isle of Wight East constituency have put their names to the petition, with a further 2,235 signatures in Labour’s Isle of Wight West, around 3.3% of the electorate.
Former Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has said that he suspects the Isle of Wight’s pensioners, farmers and small business owners are feeling let-down…
“We won’t be going to the national polls for a few years yet, but as a gauge, it’s not great news for two-tier Keir. Less than six months in, all the evidence suggests that his support is falling fast.
“[I] suspect pensioners, farmers and small business people on the Island are feeling let-down with the Budget, and other issues.
“For the Council elections next year, Isle of Wight Conservatives need to be making sure we have a strong manifesto for the Island to offset the damage being done by central Government”.

Although Sunak has his issues and wasnt a great people person who was on the right path with tax cuts and more careful planning that thanks to labour put the UK in so much debt from Covid that people have to pay up this meant that people voted labour thinking that was the answer. Starmer immediately cut the Oil/fracking and jobs causing Fuel increases from day one. Lied about taxes, pensions and pretty much everything to get a vote. Labour is the problem and always has been. Cutesy time is over its time for Reform or conservatives.

The very same people who signed this pathetic petition also were adamant that the Brexit vote was one and done, despite the broken promises (£350m for the NHS?). If you want better public services, schools, hospitals, doctors appointments etc, after 14 years of mismanagement, waste and corruption then you need to suck it up. The money has to come from somewhere. You lot have terrible memory’s, Johnson’s lies, Truss’ incompetence, billionaire Sunak’s indifference. I’d rather see better pay and conditions for nurses than a tax loophole for the richest farmers.

What a remarkably stupid remark. Breeding and education? We are not talking about horses or dogs. And the Eton education bestowed on so many of the last shower taught them simply to get their noses on the trough. Exactly what “move” is Ms Badenoch supposed to make. We have an electoral system in this country which is not based on a few people bleating “I don’t like this” triggering an election.
As far as I am aware we are not a Banana Republic, god knows how many years of Tory mismanagement we’ve had to put up with. From Boris’s lies, to Truss’s complete fiasco to Sunak inability to tell the truth. What was it at the COVID enquiry, ‘I don’t remember.’ These people need to grow up and get over it, the election was won fare and square. If we are going to a a re vote, can we do it for Brexit as well.

I wish someone would explain to me why the British public silently tolerated 14 years of austerity while the national debt multiplied, the highest tax burden since the war and the massive widening of the super rich and the poor but have done nothing but follow the Farage propaganda machine since the day Labour won a landslide victory. The Tories screwed the economy, not Starmer; Boris Johnson’s Brexit screwed the farmers; not Starmer, the Tories suspended the pension triple lock, not Starmer and what’s more, there will be more har times to come because of the mess that the Tories left behind:- massive debt and decimated public services.
