Tesco will stop 24-hour operations with immediate effect, closing the doors between 22:00 and 06:00 each day, it has been revealed.
Due to the extreme trading conditions the company has decided to close all Tesco stores between the hours of 22:00-06:00. This is a short term measure to help replenish stores which have been seeing huge numbers of shoppers clearing food and other household items from the shelves.
In addition to this, it has been revealed that the Petrol Station will also be closed – including Pay At Pump – for the same hours.

I feel that the shops need to set a level that can be bought in a day. They should be responsible for stopping bulk or panic buying.
Surely we should “self-regulate”. Why should it always be somebody else’s responsibility?
Baslkets or small trollies only
The food cleared out points to the level of intelligence of the people doing this. The items that needs some thought to use, the items for cooking your own dinner, remain.
It has gone crazy everywhere – went to Sainsbury’s this afternoon just to pick up shopping necessary for this week – shop shelves virtually empty.
It just goes to show how many greedy selfish folk there are out there…. to them all stop it right now in order that everyone can buy what they actually need!
It is all very well shops restricting people in terms of 2 or 5 of a particular item, but as we all know they will purchase, wait a while and go back in for more! This system cannot be policed, it only worked during the war because of ration books.
With regards to on line shopping – no doubt those people awaiting delivery, (and there will be a lot of people doing this because of I’ll health, age etc.) are going to be disappointed….
That’s if you can get a delivery slot. None for over ten days. People are so greedy and selfish.
STRICT measures should be put in place now to restrict the amounts everyone are allowed to buy. Some people are so selfish their trollies are piled high with multiple items leaving others going without.
As was the man at Iceland today buying 8 packets of butter, and insisting to the manager who very politely asked him if he could get by with 4, no, I need 8 and don’t try and at me. Hope it chokes him……!mm
retailers are rubbing their hands at the increased sales – do not think for one second that they care about who gets what – just as long as it gets sold and they book a profit.
If ye are prepared ye shall not fear, when the mormons came knocking and you didn’t answer that’s the advice they’d give you and you wouldn’t be panic buying
I write with extreme sadness rather than irate anger, at my fellow human beings, who with total disregard to anyone else, selfishly are stripping shelves in shops of everything. In particular, over buying perishable food which in a very few days they will no doubt fill up their food recycle bins with. Sad times for the human race, the most intelligent of all species?
Tesco and co are making a fortune but it’s not their fault, if people are stupid enough to buy more than they need, more fool them. I just popped up to Tesco for a carton of milk, some strawberries and veg. It’s amazing. Nothing there but the hard working staff are restocking and there’s loads of produce on racks ready to go onto the shelves. I looked in my cupboards and I have loads of tins etc and I’m sure everyone has as-well. Maybe we should use up our fully stocked cupboards first. Black coffee tonight. 🙂
How very sad that these individuals are! No thought for others. It’s a total disgrace! I went to Tesco’s today and not even a single pack of baby wipes…. meat…..tin tomato’s…. potatoes… cereal.. essentials for making a home made meal… pretty much nothing left. I hope those selfish ones buying it all need an essential item and they can’t get it, because their selfish panic buying is going to make everyone panic buy. Think of others.
High time the shops started to ration their goods if idiots can’t be reasonable with their purchases..
Shops need to be responsible in their policies though and not be vague.
Local Shanklin CoOp today had PLENTY of toilet rolls, PLENTY of kitchen towels and PLENTY of tissues.
Amongst my shopping I bought one pack of 9x toilet rolls (all I need, there were 18-roll packs on the shelf), 1x pack of kitchen towel and 2x boxes of tissues. At the till I was told I was only allowed 3 of any one ‘type’ of item so had to leave one item.
On that basis I couldn’t have bought 6x toilet rolls in 2-roll packs – but I could have walked out with 54-rolls of them as 3×18-roll packs
It was hardly hoarding was it??
And so how could I buy 4 items of food on that ‘similar’ policy given that all food is eaten?? Not least of all their meal deal which itself is FIVE items of similar food!!!
Hoarding is quite selfish but a flawed policy that encourages hoarding does nobody any good !!!!!
