The Floating Bridge between Cowes and East Cowes will be out of service for 7 days later this month, to allow planned maintenance work to take place.
The Isle of Wight Council has confirmed that the service will be suspended from 05:00 on Monday 21st September, with the Floating Bridge returning to service a week later at 05:00 on Monday 28th September.
The suspension will allow for the replacement of the Floating Bridge chains, the annual hydraulic oil change and other ancillary works.
The chains are changed annually to reduce wear on the drive components and to reduce chain slippage, which can result in increased noise and damage.
A launch service for cyclists and pedestrians will operate throughout the suspension.
From Monday to Saturday, the first crossing will be at 05:00 and the last crossing at 22:50. On Sunday, crossings will operate between 06:30 and 22:50.
