£1,500 has been awarded to WightSAR – the Island’s voluntary search & rescue team, as part of the latest Tesco Groundworks Community Grant round – thanks to the blue tokens you receive at the checkouts. WightSAR gained the most tokens in the recent campaign, meaning additional funds can be spent on the brand new Incident Control Vehicle. Tesco stores across the Isle of Wight have been supporting WightSAR for several years and to date, over £8,000 has been raised for the charity. The latest cheque was recently handed over to Alistair Bridle, WightSAR Trustee and Equipment Officer, by Kevin – a manager at Tesco Extra Ryde. Alistair took the new vehicle along to show the Tesco team and to say thank you. Dean Terrett, Chair and Founder of WightSAR, says:
“Thank you so much to Tesco and all their customers. This donation allows us to purchase essential equipment and helps us to continue our important work supporting the police and community with our specialist resources. At Isle of Wight Search and Rescue, we are all volunteers and rely entirely on the support of the community and local business to provide the service, ultimately saving lives and reuniting families with loved ones”.
