A total of 7 teenagers are due in court to face charges of high-value criminal damage in Shanklin.
Between 5th May and 5th June 2022, it’s alleged that significant damage – estimated to be in excess of £200,000 worth – was caused to the interior of a Grade II listed house in Rectory Road.
Following an investigation by the South Wight Neighbourhoods Policing Team, the following individuals, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been issued a summons to appear at Isle of Wight Youth Court tomorrow (Wednesday 25th October) to face one count each of criminal damage:
- A 14-year-old girl from Shanklin
- 2 13-year-old boys from Shanklin
- A 15-year-old boy from Newport
- A 14-year-old girl from Godshill
- A 16-year-old boy from Hythe, New Forest
- A 14-year-old boy from Shanklin
Make the parents pay they made there kids feral as for the kids they need to be put in a home away from there parents. This is the sort of scum the island is getting more of

I agree, after two years in borstal back in the early 80’s I came out very different and then later after a 5 year stretch followed by another 3 years banged up I can say it didn’t do me any harm.

The answer is to garnish the parents income at source, that’s £33,333 each family. Keep taking the money until the bill is fully paid. They can’t be all bad parents, but they are still ultimately responsible for the financial burden the victim now faces. I don’t know what the answer is in terms of punishments for this bunch of undesirables, our courts seem to be almost farcical now. They lock up shoplifters for stealing, but let violent and sexual offenders walk out the door. Locking these idiots up will for a few months would be a good start.
They will each be sentenced to a community resolution, which in effect is nothing. A caution on their record which makes no difference to them. I don’t think the parents should pay the fine as they did nothing wrong, unless they were present for the offence which is a different matter. Unfortunately the insurance will have to be claimed, and no lessons will be learned by these kids going forward. The justice system is no longer fit for purpose and needs to be overhauled to lock up offenders like this as a means of real punishment and deterrent.
