All 3 men who burgled the Co-op store on Shanklin’s Landguard Road back in February have avoided prison.
As first reported by Island Echo, it was on the evening of Sunday 25th February that Police were called following reports of a burglary at the store on Landguard Road.
Those attempting to get inside forced the front doors open and lifted the internal security shutter, causing extensive damage to the shopfront. Once inside the premises, the trio stole a quantity of cash. They were all located and arrested the following day.
The Co-op was closed for a time whilst Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary investigated the incident and repairs to the fixtures and fittings were completed.
Appearing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court last month, 37-year-old Danny Kernaghan, of Golden Grove in Southampton, 33-year-old Robert Mandair, of Cossack Green in Southampton, and 41-year-old George Mason, of Kingsdown Way in Southampton were all sentenced.
Mason was handed a 51-week sentence, suspended for 18 months. He was also ordered to complete 30 rehabilitation days and 200 hours of unpaid work.
Kernaghan was handed a 44-week sentence, suspended for 18 months. He was ordered to complete 45 rehabilitation days and 120 hours of unpaid work.
The most lenient sentence was handed to Mandair who was handed 24 weeks custody, also suspended for 18 months. He was also ordered to complete 25 rehabilitation days.
Gosh, that’ll teach them all a lesson.
A lesson that crime pays.
Pathetic deterrent that seems to me, no wonder the Country is going down the pan !! A bit of hard labour might deter.
