Police are guarding the scene of yet another Co-Op break-in on the Isle of Wight – this time at the Landguard Road store in Shanklin. The incident occurred between Sunday night and this morning (Monday) – shortly after the store closed. The front doors to the large supermarket have been forced open and the internal security shutter lifted up. It’s unclear at this stage what, if anything, has been taken.
The modus operandi appears to be similar to that of 2 recent burglaries at the Co-Op in East Cowes and the Co-Op on High Street, Sandown. In both of those burglaries large amounts of cash were stolen. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has cordoned off the entrance to the Landguard Road store, which is expected to remain closed until this afternoon. UPDATE @ 09:24 – Police have confirmed that they were called at 22:53 last night to reports of a burglary. Investigations are ongoing. UPDATE @ 13:16 – 3 men from Southampton have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary after a quantity of cash was taken from the Co-Op. UPDATE @ 15:39 – Co-Op Landguard Road has now re-opened following the conclusion of on-scene investigations by Police.
