3 men from Southampton have been arrested after a quantity of cash was stolen from the Co-Op in Shanklin last night (Sunday). As first reported by Island Echo, officers cordoned off the supermarket on Landguard Road overnight after a break-in at 22:53. Entry was forced through the front doors. It has now been revealed that several people entered the store and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. A 41-year-old man, a 37-year-old man and a 33-year-old man – all from Southampton – have been arrested on suspicion of non-dwelling aggravated burglary. They remain in custody at this time.

This latest incident comes less than 2 weeks after an almost identical burglary at the Co-Op in Sandown, which followed another incident at the Co-Op in East Cowes a month beforehand. UPDATE @ 15:39 – Co-Op Landguard Road has now re-opened following the conclusion of on-scene investigations by Police. UPDATE WEDNESDAY – 41-year-old George Mason of Kingsdown Way, 37-year-old Danny Kernaghan of Golden Grove and 33-year-old Robert Mandair of Cossack Green – all from Southampton – have been charged with burglary other than dwelling.
