Royal Navy Bomb Disposal experts from the mainland are making their way to a property in Shorwell this afternoon (Friday) following the discovery of a suspected piece of explosive ordnance.
Police are currently on scene in the village after the object, thought to be a World War II ‘bomb’, was unearthed earlier on today.
Bomb disposal experts are making their way to the area to assess the object and act accordingly.
If it is deemed to be a viable device, it is likely it will be detonated via a controlled explosion.

Looks like an early phallus to me.
Were the early ones different? Please tell, oh ancient one.
Possibly iron age?
Not very bomb shaped. So likely just a piece of old post, hardly likely to explode now after enduring this wet, dank, miserable climate for decades.
Still a feel good factor in getting uniformed personnel over, making us ‘feel’ safe, when the risk was minimal anyway.
Too small to be a bomb .looks like an artillery or flak shell .
Looks like rough old soil in shor’all…
tis ruogh, gravle stone
ruogh as a bagers hass
good fur turnups cabidge
an all
Maybe it was found in that quarry place by the wooden bridge? As the farmer says the soil is good for growing brassica, I have an ant living there.
Move it to Ryde and then set it off
